Sixth Form Qualifications and Curriculum Outline
This information aims to outline our context and policy with regard to the reformed A levels and university applications:
BRGS is a selective between the ages 11-16 with a comprehensive intake post-16; up to a third of students in the sixth form are from local high schools. We serve a large area covering Rossendale, Burnley and Rochdale, including areas of low economic prosperity.
Students take either three or four subjects at A level. Students currently in year 13 have not been entered for AS levels to allow them to concentrate on the reformed linear A level courses. Students who are studying Food Technology, Law or Mathematics have taken legacy AS units but have not ‘cashed in’ the AS qualification.
Predicted grades are based on internal exams taken at the end of year 12. These exams have comprised specimen or unseen A level questions, and are robustly checked against external grade boundaries to give a realistic prediction of A level performance.
