Munch it! Wear It! Taste it! Choose it!

Change Today. Choose Fairtrade, is an urgent call to people in the UK to engage with the Fairtrade Foundation’s vision of an even bigger movement for positive change on unfair trade, including making the switch to buying Fairtrade.

This is the theme of Fairtrade Fortnight 2007 (26 February – 11 March),
the annual promotional campaign of the Fairtrade Foundation which encourages
people to buy products carrying the FAIRTRADE Mark.

Mr. Whyte (Head of Religious Studies) and Mrs. Hughes (Food Technology) are currently raising awareness of Fairtrade at BRGS with different activities, displays and even offering samples of Fairtrade food and drink in the staff room for teachers to try!

How is BRGS supporting Fairtrade?

Students in Food Technology lessons are being encouraged to used Fairtrade products.
On 8th and 9th March when Great Expectations is staged, we will be serving Fairtrade coffee, tea and sugar, & using Fairtrade ingredients to make the cakes. Asda and Tesco gave us discounts towards this which we are grateful for.

Some facts about Fairtrade:

more than five million people - farmers, workers and their families - across 58 developing countries benefit from the international Fairtrade system.
The full range of Fairtrade products is: coffee, tea, chocolate, cocoa, sugar, bananas, apples, pears, grapes, plums, lemons, oranges, satsumas, clementines, lychees, avocados, pineapples, mangoes, fruit juices, smoothies, quinoa, peppers, green beans, coconuts, dried fruit, rooibos tea, green tea, ice-cream, cakes, biscuits, honey, muesli, cereal bars, jams, chutney, sauces, herbs, spices, nuts, nut oil, wine, beer, rum, flowers, sports balls, rice, yoghurt, babyfood, sugar body scrub, cotton wool and cotton products.
Manchester is officially a Fairtrade city. Other North West Fairtrade towns include: Altrincham, Bolton, Horwich, Liverpool, Macclesfield, Pendle, Preston, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport and Warrington.

Fairtrade Food and Fashion Show

Pendle's Fairtrade Group is hosting a vibrant and diverse food and fashion show, showcasing a wide range of fashion from a variety of Fairtrade suppliers including Hug, Nomads Clothing, Arkadash and Namaste. Food prepared using fairtrade ingredients as well as wine and juice is included in the ticket price. Tickets are £5(£2.50 concessions)
All proceeds to Pendleside Hospice.

Fair For All

To celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight 2007, Rochdale Council & Rochdale Fairtrade Forum brings you FAIR FOR ALL - fun, food, displays and a selection of speeches, art, dance and theatre provided by the young people of the borough. The event aims to raise the profile of Fairtrade and how people can make a difference simply by using their own purchasing power. Rochdale is proud to be a Fairtrade borough and we are extremely pleased to have some of the young people in the borough to help us spread the Fairtrade message.
