The Catering staffs at BRGS have been hard at work studying for their NVQs in Catering and Hospitality. To date 6 have successfully attained Level 1 and are already moving on to achieve Level 2, with Sandra Connor, the Catering Manager, being awarded Level 3. In addition, 5 colleagues have been awarded Level 3 in Food Hygiene.

Their NVQ assessor from Accrington and Rossendale College, Jane Boothman, has commended them for being “excellent students”.

The school kitchens were completely refurbished during the summer of 2008 to provide state of the art dining facilities. A cashless dining system was introduced simultaneously which has greatly improved the speed of service and virtually eliminated the need for students to carry money in school.

BRGS is now the proud holder of the Healthy Schools accolade, a scheme run by Lancashire county Council. It recognises the schools efforts in giving the students the confidence, skills, knowledge and understanding to make healthy food choices. This in turn creates happier, healthier children who do better in learning and in life!
