3 April 2009

On April 2nd, a Medical Conference was held at Kay Street Baptist Chuch in Rawtenstall.

The conference was held for Year 13 students with an offer of a University place to study medicine and ex-BRGS students who are now studying at medical school.

The sessions started with an introductory interactive session about Medical School and a career in Medicine, hosted by local GP Dr Chris Clayton followed by a practical workshop aimed at developing successful interview techniques led by Mr John Uden (ex-Liverpool University Laison Officer).

After lunch the students participated in a 'hands-on' session hosted by GP Dr Hilary Wait and Anaesthetist Dr Janet Barrie, where the students thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to consider some very basic medical procedures and terms.

The day drew to a close with the students gathering round for a “questions and answers” session and to reflect on all the valuable experiences they had encountered throughout the day

Our sincere thanks go to Mr Elkington and Dr Jackson for arranging such a worthwhile conference and also to all our professional guests: Dr Chris Clayton GP, Dr Hilary Wait GP, Dr Janet Barrie and
Mr John Uden who helped to make the event such an outstanding success.
