Year 9 Helicoptor Visit April 2009
25 April 2009
On Friday, April 24th, Year 9 Technology lessons at BRGS took on a much more realistic perspective with a flying visit from Mr Frank Owen in his Meschersmitt twin engined helicopter!
As part of their project work, 22 students in Year 9 have been considering the principles of flight (lift, drag and thrust) and also looking at the history of flight and modern aviation.
Mr Owen landed the aircraft on the school sports pitches and, once the engines had been closed down, the students had the opportunity to study the helicopter at close range.
Mr Owen is the Managing Director of Enviro and is also a qualified pilot. With his 20 years flying experience he was able to answer the students most technical of questions!
Our thanks go to Mr Fitton and Mr Owen for arranging to turn the theory of flight into such a real and exciting experience.
