The BRGS Sapphires Cheerleading Squad took part in the UKCA National Schools Championships on 24th June at the Manchester Velodrome.

The cheerleaders have been training hard all year with Miss Todd before school, at lunch and after-school, to make sure that they were ready for the competition.

There were 38 pupils that competed, and for some of them it was their first ever competition.

The girls entered five different categories, and in all five they placed in the top three:

KS3 Pom Dance Large Squad – 1st Place
KS3 Pom Dance Small Squad – 1st Place
KS3 Non-Transitional Street Cheer – 2nd Place
KS3 Cheerleading Level 2 – 2nd Place
KS3 Cheerleading Level 1 – 3rd Place

The judges commented on the girls’ enthusiasm, their commitment to each movement, as well as their creativity. The girls wore some beautiful costumes that had been hand-made by Mrs Jenkins, and these did not fail to wow the judges as well.

This is a phenomenal achievement for all of the pupils involved, as not many people can say that they are a National Champion!
