It was our first time participating in the Kids' Lit Quiz at the end of November.

The Kids' Lit Quiz is an annual literature competition for children aged 10 to 13.  Since it began in 1991 the quiz has spread across the world, with national competitions being held in New Zealand, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Canada, USA, Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong.  The winning team from each heat competes in a National Final with winners going on to the World Final.

In the heats, teams of students are asked to answer 100 questions on children's literature divided into ten categories which vary each year with categories including poetry, authors, titles, settings, characters and nursery rhymes.  Between each round, whilst the marking takes place, the Quizmaster asks questions of the spectators which gives them a chance to win books.

The North-West heat was held at Pendle Vale and in spite of a valiant effort, BRGS were pipped to the post on this occasion with the top three being:

1st:  Cockermouth School

2nd:  Keswick School

3rd: Clitheroe Royal Grammar School

Congratulations to these schools as their progress to the next stage of the competition.  BRGS will be back again next year!
