Author Louisa Reid visited BRGS to speak with Year 7 students about her love of reading and writing. Her latest novels have been in verse: Gloves Off and Wrecked and she notes that she loves the exhilarating challenges and opportunities that writing in this form of writing brings. Louisa's previous two novels were Black Heart Blue and Lies Like Love.
Louisa is particularly drawn to write about themes of personal freedom and female empowerment. Gloves Off is about bullying and body image with a focus on a fight for self-confidence and self-belief. Gloves Off was the Sunday Times Children's Book of the Week: "Written with feeling, honesty and conviction, this is a story about body image and self-esteem that packs a knock-out punch.’ The Guardian described it as "an intense, original and profoundly moving verse novel, filled with the fierce, hard joy of finding your power.’
