During the evening of 8th December between 7:30 and 9:30pm, 16 students from BRGS and 2 from Haslingden High School were put through their paces with challenging online simulation interviews for Medicine or Dentistry.  Like the norm for real interviews, these comprised a circuit of 5 stations, each 9 minutes long, with a different interviewer.  Known as multiple, mini-interviews or MMIs, each station task was designed to test specific aspects of the student’s understanding and to demonstrate the necessary qualities needed to be successful.  These included stations on ethics, integrity, and communication in different contexts, as well as questions about their personal statements.  Once every student had rotated round all stations via zoom breakout rooms, a group session was held in the main meeting room giving valuable feedback and tips on how to approach the various station types.  Over the next week, every student will also receive individual feedback forms, assessing their performance at each station.

In all, twenty five individuals voluntarily gave up their evening to provide this invaluable opportunity to our students, with individuals at all levels of their career from a  first year student through to experienced practitioners who repeatedly support our students in this way.  The event was organised by Dr Jackson at BRGS and Mr King, Head of Science at Haslingden High School.

Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with one student stating:  "The interview evening was such a great experience.  Having now done nearly all of my interviews, I can confirm that the experience was extremely realistic and really prepared me for the interviews.  All of the interviewers were so friendly and provided excellent feedback and tips for the interviews.  I can honestly say that I felt so much more confident going into the interviews having done the MMI simulation evening and having a good idea of what to expect."
