The BRGS under 14 badminton squads enjoyed a great day at the Lancashire finals of the National Centre Parcs Badminton competition.

The girls' team got through to the semi-finals and the boys' team won their event in a thrilling final.

Both teams had won the Rossendale events back in November in order to progress through to the county finals.

Both teams lost one of their group matches but improved throughout the day and progressed to the semi-finals. Unfortunately the girls fell at that hurdle but the boys beat  Montgomery High School from Blackpool to reach the final.

The final against St Bedes from Blackburn was poised at two games all with the final doubles match being played. This game went down to the wire and in a first to 21 game was poised at 20-20. BRGS kept their composure to win the final point.

The teams have been coached by Dean Burtinshaw and both he and Brendan Baird (head of PE) were "delighted with the students attitude and success." "We have been getting through to this stage for a couple of years but this is the first time we have got into the latter stages"

The teams consisted of girls - Molly Barton, Isabelle Sharphouse, Olivia Holden and Mairead Morony.  Boys - Ryan Boott, James Buckley, Mark Howorth and Jonathon Thorp.
