Eleven Year 10 students from just down the road at Hollins Technology College, Accrington, visited BRGS Sixth Form for a master class in A-level Science.  The students had the opportunity to focus on DNA fingerprinting which also forms a part of our Sixth Form Enrichment Programme, as well as developing a key skill in Chemistry, focusing on titration.  Director of Sixth Form, David Morriss commented: "It was a great chance to showcase our Science Department for students with a particular interest in that field.  We are also proud to have strengthened our links to a local school."

Feedback from our guests was overwhelmingly positive:

  • “I like the experience of 6th form because it has made me consider my options after school.”
  • “I have been considering my career path and science especially interests me. The taster session has made me seriously consider science in the future.”
  • “I love this mini trip as I love science and want to excel in it, especially chemistry.”
  • “I liked the teachers because they were friendly and got you involved in the lesson.”
  • “I liked the experience because it was fun and exciting.”
  • “We liked the teachers as they were very friendly and we loved the experience.”
  • “I really enjoyed the Titration practical and found the experience really interesting. I really loved the DNA test as that is what I’m interested in.”
  • “I enjoyed the DNA because it is something I haven’t done before.”
  • “I liked the fact that we were all involved in doing the practical in both of the lessons.”
