Careers/Independent Advice and Guidance
Students begin working towards developing a career perspective from year 7 through PSHCE lessons, form time activities and assemblies plus a wide range of online resources including padlets, Google Classrooms and Unifrog, which is a complete careers destinations platform that helps students compare every opportunity at each key transition. All pupils have access to independent careers advice via the school's Independent Careers Advisor. Working to support the school's Independent Careers Advisor is BRGS's Career Leader, Miss Gauntlett, who can be contacted on the school number or via email at ecg@brgs.org.uk.
The school also uses Start, one of the UK's most popular and reputable online career services that any pupil and parent can sign up to (click the banner below to go to Start).
During year 9, students attend a Next Steps Event to explore all post-14 options and receive advice from people in industry to help them select a range of suitable subjects to study throughout years 10 and 11.
In year 10, all students have a week out of school on work experience and are also given the opportunity to have a one to one guidance session with a qualified careers advisor.
In year 11, all students attend a careers fair where employers, colleges, training providers and universities are on hand to help pupils explore all post-16 options.
The vast majority of our students progress to full time further education (99%) and 1% to apprenticeships in 2021.

Pupils continue to be supported through to year 13 to help prepare them for their next steps. Unifrog is used extensively by the sixth form to help students explore University, Apprenticeships and other alternative post-18 options (click the banner below to go to Unifrog and contact school for the login details).
