There are many activities organised by school staff which take place either during lunchtime or out of school hours. These include school team sports, orienteering, musical and drama groups, chess, subject clubs, Squirrel student writing group, Stitch (textiles group), Debating Society, eco-school group and multi-faith groups, to just name a few. ICT provision is available every day before school from 8.00 am, at lunchtime and after school to 4.10 pm.

Surrounded by beautiful countryside, BRGS is ideally situated to encourage both an appreciation of the environment and a healthy interest in outdoor pursuits. All students are offered the chance of adventure and exploration through geography field trips. In addition, the school runs the highly popular and successful Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme where pupils can pursue their personal development programme through bronze, silver and gold levels.

School trips, both home and abroad, feature strongly throughout all year groups and provide opportunity for fieldwork studies, curriculum enhancement, heightened cultural awareness and of course, enjoyment and fun. In a typical school year, there will be fieldwork trips in Geography, Art, History, Economics, Law, Business Studies, Mathematics and language enrichment as well as holidays overseas. In recent years we have visited the USA, Iceland, Paris (Eurodisney), Spain, Germany and China. Day and evening outings may include musical and theatre productions alongside team-building activities.

All school trips are closely organised and managed and any outings involving adventurous activities or visits overseas are approved and supported by Lancashire County Council. Risk assessments accompany all trips and these can be viewed upon application. The educational visits policy is also available.
