Art student Ellie Ansell was entered into the prestigious Saatchi Schools Prize.  Her piece of work, entitled 'Meat', a commentary on women and identity, has been selected by a highly reputed art and business panel, as one of only twenty finalists from 16,000 international submissions.  Diane Bamford, Head of Art said:  "For Ellie to be a finalist in this elite competition is a credit to her outstanding talent.  It is an incredible accolade."

The evening ceremony, when the winner and two runners up will be announced, is to take place at the Saatchi Gallery in London on Wednesday 26th February.  Added to that, Ellie's work will be exhibited in the Saatchi Gallery in central London for a couple of weeks following the ceremony.

The judges for the prize are the artist Bob and Roberta Smith, author and illlustrator Laura Dockrill, Saatchi Gallery director Rebecca Wilson and art advisor to Deutsche Bank and author of Global Art Compass, Alistair Hicks.  The Prize is part of the Saatchi Gallery's education programme which is committed to introducing contemporary art to younger audiences.

Update:

Ellie narrowly missed out on a prize but like us, many guests at the ceremony were incredibly impressed by her piece of art.  The Gallery has requested that Ellie's painting remains with them for longer as they would like to display it in their Education Rooms.
